VEHICLE HIGHLIGHTS
For 2012, the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG gains a convertible body style. This sports car is the first vehicle wholly designed and built by AMG, Mercedes-Benz's performance arm. The 2-passenger coupe uses a pair of "gullwing" doors, reminiscent of Mercedes-Benz coupes of the 1950s. The 2-passenger convertible has a power-folding fabric top. The sole powertrain teams a 563-horsepower 6.2-liter V8 engine with a 7-speed dual-clutch automated-manual transmission. Safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, side airbags, curtain-side airbags, and driver- and passenger-knee airbags. Among the standard features are keyless access/engine start, leather upholstery, a voice-activated navigation system, and a hard drive for storing digital-music files. Standard on the convertible is
Mercedes's AIRSCARF feature that delivers heated air through neck-level vents in the seat backs. Optional features include a performance suspension, carbon-ceramic disc brakes, carbon-fiber interior trim, and an uplevel Bang & Olufsen audio system.
