Hot on the heels of the recently reworked Continental GT coupe, the convertible follows with similar updates to the exterior and interior styling, powertrain, and features. The GTC continues with a power soft top, 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged 12-cylinder engine, 6-speed automatic transmission, and all-wheel drive. The Continental GTC’s engine remains a heavily massaged unit from Bentley-parent Volkswagen. For 2012, it produces 567 horsepower, up from 552. Torque increases to 516 lb-ft from 479. With this power increase comes the ability for the engine to run on gasoline and/or E85 ethanol-blended fuel. Bentley engineers also reprogrammed the automatic transmission for faster downshifts. Zero-60 mph takes just 4.5 seconds, and the car is capable of a 195-mph top speed.
The interior retains its blend of genuine wood and high-grade leather. New climate controls are designed for easier use. The standard navigation system now incorporates a touchscreen with fewer interface buttons. A new feature of the Continental GTC is a neck warmer designed to keep driver and front passenger more comfortable when driving with the top down on chilly days.
Options include 21-inch wheels (up from standard 20s), carbon-ceramic brake discs, a high-end Naim-brand audio system, and the ability for the customer to choose pretty much any paint/interior color combination their heart desires.
